My 21-day ban is about to expire. What are my options?
After 21-days from the date* your ban was placed, the ban on your Experian credit report will be lifted. Here are three options for what you can do next:
- Change your identity information: if your identity information has been compromised, changing your identity documents (e.g. driver’s licence) can reduce the likelihood of fraudulent activity.
- Free monitoring of your credit file: Credit Savvy will alert you to any enquiries on your Experian credit report and will send you a reminder to check your credit score as it’s refreshed monthly. You don’t need to have a ban in place to benefit from this monitoring service.
- Extend your ban: you can request to extend your current ban for 12 months if you still believe you are vulnerable to identity theft or fraud. To extend the ban for 12 months, follow these steps. An extension can only be requested during your existing 21 day ban period, and for a fixed period of 12 months.
*Check the ban placement dates in the emails you received from Equifax and illion. Each of the CRBs will send you a reminder 5 days out from the ban end date. CRBs have recently been a little slower than expected to confirm ban placements due to the high volume of requests.
