5 great ways to spend your summer weekends
Summer is well and truly upon us, and although for most of us the holidays are over and it’s back to the everyday trudge that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t take full advantage of the summer weather during our weekends and public holidays!
The Savvy team have pulled together our favourite summer weekend activities (and most of them won’t cost the world as a bonus!)
We are lucky enough to live in a country where the coastline is massive and heading off the beaten track for a camping weekend doesn’t mean you have to drive for days, it can fit nicely into a weekend (especially if you’re lucky enough to swing a long weekend in there somewhere). So pack up the kids and or some mates and go exploring! Here are a few of our favourite camping spots:
2. BBQS AT HOME AND AWAY
After a cold winter it’s easy to forget just how nice it is to get together with a group of friends and eat charcoal outside, just kidding, most food can only be improved by being cooked on a BBQ if you have the right BBQ attendant.
Don’t have your own BBQ? Don’t you worry! Many parks and beaches have dedicated public BBQs that you can use, if you need to find one you can look them up on most council websites, or you can use this handy little website which will search out a public BBQ for you depending on the location you enter! http://www.meatinapark.com.au/
3. BEACHES AND PARKS AND WATERFALLS… OH MY!
Well this one sort of goes without saying, but what could be more summery and Australian than a trip to the beach? Why not try going beyond your local sand turf? You may find a hidden gem, The Beachsafe website makes it easy to find a beach and whether it’s patrolled, has a park, or a bbq.
Beach not so much your scene? Then head for a picnic at your local park, or perhaps catch a movie at one of the outdoor cinemas that are set up for summer. Want to go further afield? Why not go for a day trip to one of the beautiful national parks and do a walk instead?
You know what’s fun to walk to in a national park on a hot day? Waterfalls. Check out some of our favourites below:
Summer is the season for markets, and wandering around, eating your way through the stalls while slowly perusing their wares can be summer weekend bliss.
The Summer Night Markets in Melbourne are a mid-week must for food, music and shopping.
The Ebenezer Night Markets in Adelaide’s East End are a must see in the warmer months.
5. ISLAND HOPPING
It’s easy to forget that we have a coastline of islands just waiting to be explored, from getting a selfie with a Quokka on Rottnest island in WA, snorkelling the Great Barrier Reef off Qld’s Orpheus Island, to visiting a cheese factory on Tasmania’s Bruny island, there is so much to do, so why not go on an island getaway this weekend?
One more thing to add to the list is checking your Credit Score for free with Credit Savvy, its fast, free and will leave you feeling productive and smarter about your finances and your credit reputation while only taking up a snippet of your weekend!
