Savvy series: cheap eats in Sydney

Last updated: 12 April 2017

Food can be a big expense in your budget, and if you’re in Sydney, you know that finding a delicious meal on the cheap in one of the world’s most expensive cities is no mean feat.

The Credit Savvy team have saved you the trouble – here are our favourite cheap eats in Sydney:

– 1 –

Marrickville Pork Roll – how can you go wrong with this Vietnamese goodness for $5?! This tiny hole in the wall place often has lines down Marrickville Road but we assure you it’s worth the wait!

– 2 –

We didn’t say it’d all be healthy! For a late night fix, Mr Crackles in Darlinghurst offers hungry Sydneysiders a $5 cup of crackling pork, or the Crackles Classic of crispy slow roast 5 spiced pork belly served with Vietnamese salad for $13.50.

– 3 –

We can’t leave out dollar dogs (yes, $1) on Tuesdays at Soda Factory, Surry Hills.

– 4 –

If you want a hearty Italian meal that won’t break the bank, coupled with a vibrant atmosphere, Bar Reggio, Darlinghurst is perfect for large groups.

– 5 –

Good, cheap Thai food is never too far away in Sydney – Doytao Thai has multiple locations around Sydney. If you can handle the spice, grab the Pad Kee Mao for $12.90.

– 6 –

When did pub food get so expensive? Luckily, the Shakespeare Hotel in Surry Hills is known for its $13.50 meals – try the roast vegetable lasagne or the chicken schnitzel.

– 7 –

El Jannah, Granville is known for its inexpensive, mouth-watering Lebanese chicken and garlic sauce.

– 8 –

North of the bridge, you’ll find Five Points Burgers with its tasty Bronx burger for $13.
