8 fantastic financial literacy and helpful not-for-profits
Here at Credit Savvy, we believe in increasing the financial literacy and knowledge of all Australians and that you shouldn’t have to pay to do so. It is one of the key reasons we set up Credit Savvy.
There are a number of organisations and resources out there dedicated to raising financial literacy and providing help to those in financial hardship and we want to tell you about some of them:

MoneySmart is an initiative of ASIC (Australian Securities and Investments Commission) that offers free independent guidance to help consumers manage their finances. There’s loads of information and resources covering just about everything to do with personal finances.

10thousandgirl is a not-for-profit organisation started by a group of women in a Sydney pub in 2009. It has grown to educate many thousands of women across Australia every year with the initiative attracting national and more recently global recognition in their bid to contribute to increasing the wellbeing and economic health of women.

First Nations Foundation is the only national Indigenous charity in Australia with a focus on financial wellbeing. They run a financial literacy program for members of Indigenous communities called myMoola. MyMoola helps people navigate their finances by increasing their understanding of budgeting, setting financial goals, making wiser consumer choices and setting up financial legacy plans.

National Debt Helpline is a not-for-profit service that helps people tackle their debt problems. Their professional financial counsellors offer a free, independent and confidential service.

Doing It Tough is an Australian Bankers’ Association website that encourages bank customers who are experiencing financial difficulties to contact their bank to discuss their situation.
NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF COMMUNITY LEGAL CENTRES – HTTP://WWW.NACLC.ORG.AU/
Community legal centres are not-for-profit community organisations, operating independently to provide legal services to the public.
NATIONAL LEGAL AID – HTTP://WWW.NATIONALLEGALAID.ORG/
Legal Aid provides free legal information, advice, and representation to each state and territory in Australia.
FINANCIAL OMBUDSMAN SERVICE – HTTP://WWW.FOS.ORG.AU/
The Financial Ombudsman Service provides free independent dispute resolution for consumers.
